Located in the eastern Caribbean Sea, Saint Lucia blends French, African and British influences with island ambiance, tropical scenery and unique natural attractions. Volcanic peaks, lush rainforests and warm waves provide a relaxing or adventurous destination for families, couples or groups. Snorkelers, divers and other water enthusiasts will enjoy getting up close to angel fish, stingrays, spotted eels and many other types of marine life in the turquoise waters of this friendly West Indian island.

While there are beautiful beaches on the island’s Atlantic coast, some of the best places to snorkel in St. Lucia are found on the Caribbean coast. The waves in the Atlantic tend to be more rough and choppy, but the Caribbean offers gentle conditions for beginner and expert snorkelers.
Ladera, once part of the Rabot Estate cocoa plantation, sits on a UNESCO World Heritage along the Caribbean coast. Located in Soufriere, our luxury eco-friendly resort is the perfect anchor from which is enjoy a variety of the best places to snorkel in St. Lucia. The iconic volcanic peaks of Petit Piton and Gros Piton provide a stunning backdrop to the crystal clear water.
All beaches in St. Lucia are public, including ones with on-site hotels. Many of these hotels have restaurants, snack bars and dive shops that rent snorkeling gear, lounge chairs and umbrellas. There are also a variety of local dive shops that rent gear if you don’t have your own. It’s just a matter of finding the best stretch of sand to wade into your St. Lucia snorkeling adventure.
Popular Saint Lucia Snorkeling Beaches
• The secluded Anse Chastanet is north or Soufriere and is considered one of the best on the island. There is a coral reef just offshore, and there is a nearby dive center that rents gear and can help arrange charter trips.
• Anse des Pitons, or Pitons Beach, is south of Soufriere and near the majestic Pitons. It is the only beach located between these two scenic Piton peaks. This beach has soft white sand for relaxing after a snorkeling excursion.
• Anse Cochon is located between Castries and Soufriere. Its dark sand shoreline is accented with the green of mountain peaks. The reef is fairly close to the beach for convenient St. Lucia snorkeling.
• The calm clear water of Marigot Bay is a popular destination for charter boat trips, as it can only be reached by boat. Snorkelers will discover a colorful and eclectic underwater world in this scenic spot.
Saint Lucia Reef Snorkeling Tours
If you want to experience a true reef adventure or just venture out beyond the beach, book a tour with a dive center such as Dive Saint Lucia, Scuba St. Lucia or Eco Divers. Tours take guests to offshore reefs where they’ll encounter a wide array of marine life that includes pufferfish, trumpet fish, and turtles as many types of colorful coral formations. Snorkeling gear and other amenities are usually provided on these unique island adventures.

A treatment at The Spa at Ladera Resort is the perfect addition to your St. Lucian holiday. We offer a variety of massages, facials, scrubs, and wraps but our standout treatment is the Sulphur Mud Experience. This is an exclusively outdoor treatment on location at St. Lucia's famous Sulphur Springs.
How a Sulphur Springs Mud Treatment Ladera Resort Works
One of our professional therapists will accompany you to Sulphur Springs, the world's only drive-in volcano, a mere five minutes from Ladera Resort. When you arrive, please take a dip in one of nature's largest hot tubs! Fair warning though, the sulphur smell can be off-putting but the therapeutic minerals and salts in the water are worth it. The therapist will apply the rich, black volcanic mud to your body (and face, if desired) and will work its magic while you relax. Your skin will tingle as dead skin cells are scrubbed away along with stress, fatigue, and even swollen joints. Run your hands along your body upon treatment end to feel the silky smoothness of your skin now hydrated and nourished. You are certain to leave Sulphur Springs relaxed yet energized for the rest of your vacation.
Tip for Scheduling a Visit to The Spa at Ladera
Reservations are recommended for all spa treatments but specifically for the Sulphur Mud Treatment, you will need to book your spot at least eight hours in advance. Wear a dark swimsuit or one that is not as precious.
How The Sulphur Mud Treatment at The Spa Enhances Your Well-Being
Taking the time to relax and care for yourself boosts your spirit. The mud treatment allows you to have some down time during your Caribbean island getaway. If much of your trip has centered around activities such as swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving, your body may be ready for something more low-key. Indulge in the mud treatment or any of the healing treatments at The Spa. You deserve it.
