When planning your trip to St. Lucia, you may want to time your visit to coincide with festival season. Experience our island culture, traditions, music and food at one of the many festivals from May to October. Season kicks off this month with the Jazz Festival which is part of the series of celebrations known as Soleil Festival or Summer Festival.
St. Lucia Soleil Festival
The St. Lucia Soleil Festival, or Summer Festival, is an all-encompassing event that includes the Jazz, Carnival, Roots & Soul and Arts & Heritage Festivals. There are events all over the island, giving you the chance to see different beaches and explore the different features of our tropical paradise. You will have the opportunity to listen to local, national and international bands, watch the mesmerizing dancers and try scrumptious food. With all the nonstop excitement, you may want to squeeze in a massage at our onsite Spa at Ladera!
St. Lucia Jazz Festival
The St. Lucia Jazz Festival celebrates the jazz music of St. Lucia, the Caribbean and international jazz community. The 2018 Jazz Festival takes place for a full week from May 6 through May 13. There are multiple performance venues for the Jazz Festival, with the final and biggest concert taking place at the Pigeon Island National Landmark. In addition to jazz performances, there are musicians who play reggae, conscious hip-hop, Afropunk and rhythm & blues.
St. Lucia Carnival
The St. Lucia Carnival is a weeks-long festival that is held from June through July each year. It is centered around the music and dance of the islands, with many street parties and private parties at different resort venues. You may find yourself joining an impromptu dance contest as a part of a team, with each team outdoing the last. Each Friday night, Ladera guests are invited to travel by boat (weather permitting) to the quaint fishing village of Anse Le Raye to enjoy a traditional village Fish Fry – which showcases the skills of local fishermen and the abundance of their catch.
Roots & Soul Festival
Shortly after the conclusion of the St. Lucia Carnival is the Roots & Soul Festival, which takes place from late August through early September. This festival is also centered around music, and it features emerging musical genres such as Afropunk, as well as well-established musical traditions such as reggae. If you like to dance into the night, then this is the festival for you.
Arts & Heritage Festival
The Arts & Heritage Festival is from October 1 through 31, and it features the dance and performance arts, storytelling and visual arts of the island. Street parties and public art exhibitions are the hallmarks of this lively event. The last day of the event is International Creole Day, giving you the chance to watch theatrical performances and learn about the history and culture of the Creole people. If you like Creole food, many of the events include dinner or tastings of food prepared by local restaurants and well-known chefs.
Festival season is an excellent time to visit our gorgeous island and experience our music and culture! We can't wait to welcome you to Ladera Resort.
